The Women’s Organization of the Jewish Community of Subotica organized the Meeting of Women’s Organizations from the region of former Yugoslavia, from May 12 to 14, 2023 in Subotica. Members of Women’s Organizations from the Jewish communities of Zrenjanin, Pančevo, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Osijek, Zagreb, Split, Sarajevo and Skopje attended the gathering – about seventy of them in total.
The meeting began with the Kabbalat Shabbat service in the renovated Synagogue and continued with Kiddush and dinner in the Jewish Community Center. A member of the Subotica Women’s Organization, Sonja Stojković, spoke briefly about the origin and history of the Subotica Women’s Organization.
On Saturday, a lunch was organized at the farm in Palić.
In the evening, the guests and some male guests were entertained by Nikola Salaćanin, performing well-known Jewish songs.
On the last day of the meeting, a lecture was organized by Dr. Margareta Bašaragin from Subotica on the topic: “Notable Jewish Women of Subotica”, when she presented some 15 opulent biographies of Jewish women from Subotica from the same publication.
The members of the Women’s Organization of the Jewish Community of Subotica, led by Ana Lazović, tried their best to make everything go smoothly, in a good mood and atmosphere and with delicious cakes.
This marked the 171st anniversary of the founding of the Women’s Organization in Subotica, that is, the Jewish Women’s Association, which was the third in this region to be founded in Subotica in 1852.
